Join artist Lauren Carlo for an immersive workshop series on painting portraits alla prima from live models. Over the course of four consecutive classes, students will have the opportunity to learn directly from Lauren—a Mayor’s Portrait Finalist, Two-time Oil Painters of America Wet Painting Competition Blue Ribbon Winner, and founder of the 100 Heads Society in Baltimore.

This hands-on workshop focuses on:

The Schematics of the Face: Gain a solid understanding of facial proportions and structure.

Building the Portrait Strategically: Learn a systematic approach to layering and developing a portrait.

Mastering Specific Features: Explore techniques to capture the details and essence of individual facial features.
Each session emphasizes active painting from a model.

Intro to Plein Air
August 12, 19th
Lauren will be teaching using images, paintings and books to explain the techniques and materials needed to be a successful plein air painter. Lauren will provide materials for working!
After these classes you will be ready to join Lauren outdoors for Park and Paint returning this fall!
Lauren has won 1st place awards at Paint Annapolis, been juried into the Mountain Maryland Plein Air competition and took home a 3rd place medal as well as a 3rd place for the NOAPS plein air competition in Boulder CO. Lauren also won the Oil painters of america wet painting competition in the studio division two years in a row (2024 & 2025).
$50 a session or $90 for both classes
Figure Drawing
October 2, 9, 23, 30
6-9pm at the 100 Heads Studio
Join Lauren Carlo for 4 sessions of lessons on Figure Drawing. The classes will be focused on figure drawing skills, anatomy and tips for sketching, measuring and more. There will be two classes October 2 and 9, then a break on full instruction October 16th to work from model all class. Finally two more sessions on the 23rd and 30th.
We will have a model for the last three sessions, the first two we will use images and talk about anatomy!
